An overview of our Private Sector current projects

Regional Banking Compensation Plan

Complete classification and compensation study for a publicly traded $3+Billion Asset regional banking concern. Project included updates of position documentation; evaluation of all bank positions, including executive staff, using the CDC Position Evaluation System; market study of benchmark positions using a variety of published survey data, as well as custom survey information; development of multiple new pay structures as well as review/revision  of short-term incentive program for Officer positions, and deployment of the new program.

Health Insurer Executive Compensation Plan

Update of  executive compensation program for large, not-for-profit, multi-line health insurer. Project included job evaluation and market pricing update of all executive staff positions, Intermediate Sanctions compliance review and certification; updates to existing existing pay structure,  Board interaction and pay program deployment.

Transportation Equipment Manufacturer

Skill-Based pay program for the hourly workforce for a large, multiple-site, transportation equipment manufacturer. Project included revision to existing compensation philosophy as it relates to the hourly-paid workforce;  highly-targeted custom wage survey of client’s regional competitors to identify client’s existing market position with respect to pay and benefits; development of new pay schedules, and pay progression methodology. Project included substantial interaction with employees from all levels of the organization, and development of pay plan deployment.

Trade Association Compensation Strategy

Development of complete, formal compensation program for state-based, individual member trade association. Project included development of compensation philosophy statement, position evaluation, market pricing including custom survey of organization’s peer institutions (in other states), Board interaction and pay plan deployment.

Executive Incentive Program for Specialty Printing Manufacturer

Development of short and long-term executive incentive program(s) for international, specialty printing manufacturer. Project included market study, development of incentive plan metrics, Board interaction and program deployment.

Formal Sales Incentive Program for Network Solutions Provider

Development of formal sales incentive program for a large, national communications network solutions provider. Project included development of incentive plan metrics; pay strategy; competitive benchmarking; program deployment and interaction with company officers and affected employees.

Compensation Study for National Credit Union

Complete classification and compensation study for one of the nation’s largest Credit Unions. Project included evaluation of all credit union positions, including executive staff, using the CDC Positon Evaluation System; market study of benchmark positions using a variety of published survey data, as well as custom survey information; development of multiple new pay structures as well as deployment and communication strategies.

An overview of our Public Sector current projects

City of Oshkosh, WI

Created a uniform merit-based pay plan covering all employees, except for police, fire and transit staff who continue to be covered by traditional collective bargaining.  Plan features annual steps to the Control (market) Point based on performance at least meeting expectations with variable pay afterward up to a range maximum.  Pay plan is based on both public and private sector market data.

Central Wisconsin Labor Market Survey

Created a custom survey for public employers in the region that measured both public and private sector pay levels for organizations in the region.

Waupaca County, WI

Created three pay plans covering all employees except sheriff’s department union staff who continue to be covered by traditional collective bargaining.  Plans for department heads and long term care facility employees features annual steps to the Control (market) Point based on performance at least meeting expectations with variable pay afterward up to a range maximum. Plan for general staff features annual steps to range maximums based on performance at least meeting expectations with the intent to transform the plan to a more variable pay-for-performance model after department head pay plan is implemented.  Pay plan is based on both public and private sector market data.  Carlson Dettmann consultants will assist the County with implementing pay-for-performance for department heads.

Dodge County, WI

Created a uniform merit-based pay plan covering all employees, except for police, fire and transit staff who continue to be covered by traditional collective bargaining.  Plan features annual steps to the Control (market) Point based on performance at least meeting expectations with variable pay afterward up to a range maximum.  Pay plan is based on both public and private sector market data.

Calumet County, WI

Created a uniform pay plan covering all employees except sheriff’s department union staff who continue to be covered by traditional collective bargaining.  Plan features annual steps to range maximums based on performance at least meeting expectations with the intent to transform the plan to a more variable pay-for-performance model within two years.  County currently is developing new performance management measures and processes.  Pay plan is based on both public and private sector market data.  Calumet County has been a client since 1975.

City of Fond du Lac, WI

Created a uniform pay plan covering all employees except for police, fire and transit staff who continue to be covered by traditional collective bargaining.  Plan features annual steps to range maximums based on performance at least meeting expectations with the intent to transform the plan to a more variable pay-for-performance model as soon as improved performance management systems are implemented.  Pay plan is based on both public and private sector market data.
